Petra De Sutter

Petra De Sutter has served since 1 October 2025 as Rector of Ghent University; she is a medical doctor–gynecologist and Professor of Reproductive Medicine. Previously, she was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration, Public Enterprises, Telecommunications and Postal Services (2020–2025) in the federal De Croo government, following earlier mandates in the European Parliament and the Senate.

She combines scientific excellence with policy experience in digital transformation, with a strong focus on inclusion, ethics and innovation. In her academic and leadership roles, she promotes lifelong learning and the responsible use of AI and data, emphasizing skills development, evidence-based decision-making and societal impact.
