Train the trainer course: a practical guide to knowledge transfer in AI
AI for the Common Good
19 Sep 2023 - 26 Sep 2023
The purpose of the train-the-trainer program is to improve the transfer from academia to industry trainers in academies and training centers. To bridge the gap between theoretical and mathematical insight and hands-on skills, the body of knowledge at universities needs to be converted in actionable yet accurate learning experiences. Furthermore, truly understanding AI requires the development of a new mindset, which is not always straightforward.
Practical information:
19 Sep 2023 - 26 Sep 2023
Be Central, FARI Experience Centre, Cantersteen 16, 1000 Bruxelles
Mixed Dutch & English
Target audience: Trainers in academies and data scientists looking to upskill colleagues and teams.
Want to register?
- Prerequisites: programming experience and basic understanding of AI, Data Science and Machine Learning
- Price: €500 (excl. VAT)
The training will deepen and extend the knowledge of trainers on the following aspects:
- Introduce novel AI techniques, invented in research but not yet commonly known, to give an edge to AI implementations in Brussels.
- Deepen the underlying understanding of AI to improve the robustness of implementations. Mainly, we wish to link coding-level artefacts to both the conceptual/philosophical and the mathematical level.
- Extend the portfolio of AI techniques, including lesser known but nevertheless equally important and potent techniques.
- Create awareness about ethical aspects of AI implementations.
Programme
The core pedagogical approach is centred around so-called “AI missions”, which all have the same structure.
- 9:30 u: A real though simplified problem is given to the students
- 10:00 u: Participants tackle the problem, in pairs, on their own
- 11:00 u: The tutor helps students move forward, and identifies problems
- 12:30 u: Encountered problems are discussed in group
- 13:00 u: Lunch break 14:00 The AI solution is presented; students try to unravel how it works
- 14:30 u: The mechanisms behind the AI technique/approach are explained
- 15:30 u: Small exercises are done to empower the participants
- 16:30 u: Wrap-up and further reading
During the day, participants are continuously challenged by asking question, for example on ethical implications. The goal is to increase their critical thinking skills, while stimulating their creativity in how the techniques could be applied. The second session will focus on how to transmit the knowledge and insights to your own trainees and/or team members, providing and practicing practical tools and methodologies
