MOZAIK Winter School
We are excited to announce the upcoming MOZAIK Winter School, a comprehensive program designed to equip participants with the fundamentals and building blocks of scalable and secure data sharing. Over five days, we will dive deep into a range of critical topics, including Cloud technologies, Network Slicing, Multi-Party Computation (MPC), Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning (PPML), and the legal frameworks surrounding data governance and machine learning. The school is structured to provide a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical insights, ensuring participants understand the latest technologies and strategies in data security.

The curriculum begins with an engaging introduction to MOZAIK, followed by a deep dive into cloud technologies, secure cloud technologies, high-performance data platforms, WebAssembly, and trusted computing. The program also covers network slicing techniques, including Wi-Fi and 5G slicing, which allow for granular control of network traffic resources based on Quality of Service (QoS), security, and latency requirements. These sessions give participants a strong foundation in cloud-based data sharing and security, with expert instructors leading the sessions. As the program progresses, starting with the basics, attendees will explore the intricacies of MPC and FHE, along with an introduction to transciphering and threshold symmetric encryption, providing a comprehensive understanding of secure computation techniques.
The latter part of the school focuses on the cutting-edge domains of MPC/FHE-based Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning (PPML) alongside crucial legal perspectives on privacy, data governance, and accountability in machine learning. Participants will gain invaluable insights into the legal challenges and best practices in data utilization and machine learning applications.

- Abstract:
This presentation explores the evolving landscape of privacy in the digital era, where technology and policy intersect amid rising concerns about surveillance, data breaches, and algorithmic governance. As the digital economy expands—driven by AI, cloud services, and pervasive data collection—privacy paradigms have shifted dramatically. Emphasizing concepts such as data minimization, user autonomy, and information self-determination, privacy has been put at the centre stage due to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Overall, a tsunami of EU regulation will shape the digital society in the coming years.
Core privacy technologies include traditional cryptography to protect communications and stored data, but also more advanced systems such as multi-party computation (MPC), fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), and Zero-Knowledge proofs. Other cryptographic technologies protect metadata such as IP addresses, identities and location. As an example, the presentation discusses the emerging EU Digital Wallet (created by the eIDAS 2 regulation), focusing on challenges of unlinkability.
As cryptography becomes more powerful, governments try to get access to protected data for law enforcement or intelligence purposes. This gives rise to complex debates and presents major risks for large-scale abuse and mass surveillance by governments, companies and rogue actors.
Privacy design is not only technical but also social—requiring transparency, ethical decision-making, and context-aware norms. The presentation concludes that privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) offer diverse and powerful solutions but also raise broader societal debates on the use of cryptography and AI and on ethical dilemmas around autonomy, bias, and surveillance.

Advanced FHE and MPC Protocols for the Blockchain
- Abstract: I will talk about how FHE enables a simple MPC protocol, but to ensure this protocol is secure one needs a simple MPC protocol to enable threshold FHE. I will discuss how this is mapped to a blockchain setting, to enable a confidential blockchain. Finally I will give some insights into the building blocks needed to implement the underlying simple MPC protocol.
