Lesgevers / sprekers
Walter Daelemans
Walter Daelemans is professor of Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (NLP) at the University of Antwerp. He helped pioneer the statistical and machine learning revolution in NLP in the nineties with the development of Memory-Based Language Processing and with work on the methodology of machine learning for language processing. He was awarded EurAI and ACL fellowships for this work, and has published influential work on text mining and knowledge extraction from biomedical, clinical, and social media text, and on stylometry and author profiling. With currently 32 supervised PhDs graduated and more than 400 co-authored publications he is one of the most prolific NLP researchers in the Low Countries. In addition, he has been involved in the creation of high profile valorization results with popular open-source software such as TiMBL and Pattern, and has been instrumental in the creation of several spin-offs (textkernel, textgain, fluent.ai).

Professor Mark Coeckelbergh doceert Filosofie van Media en Technologie aan de Universiteit van Wenen. Hij schreef eerder onder andere New Romantic Cyborgs, AI Ethics, en The Political Philosophy of AI.

Guy Van den Broeck
I am a Professor of Computer Science and Samueli Fellow at UCLA, where I direct the Statistical and Relational Artificial Intelligence (StarAI) lab. My research interests are in Machine Learning (Tractable Deep Generative Models, Statistical Relational Learning, Probabilistic Programming), Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (Probabilistic Inference, Probabilistic Databases), and Artificial Intelligence in general.
Sophie Vandebroek
Sophie V. Vandebroek is a Belgian-born electrical engineer and business executive. She was the Chief Technology Officer of Xerox, and President of Xerox Innovation Group until December 2016. Vandebroek was CTO and a corporate vice president of Xerox corporation from 2006 till 2016. Following her Xerox career she became IBM Research Chief Operating Officer. After leaving IBM she served as Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Engineering Inaugural Visiting Scholar for the 2019-2020 academic year. In 2021 she started her own company to provide strategic advisory services, called Strategic Vision Ventures LLC.
Marian Verhelst
Marian Verhelst is a professor at the MICAS laboratories of KU Leuven and a research director at imec. Her research focuses on embedded machine learning, hardware accelerators, HW-algorithm co-design and low-power edge processing.
Marc Pollefeys
Marc Pollefeys is a Professor of Computer Science at ETH Zurich and Director of the Microsoft Spatial AI Zurich Lab. Before this he was on the faculty at the UNC-Chapel Hill. He obtained his PhD from the KULeuven in 1999. He is a Fellow of IEEE and ACM.
He is best known for his work in 3D computer vision, having been the first to develop a software pipeline to automatically turn photographs into 3D models, but also works on robotics, graphics and machine learning problems. Other noteworthy projects he worked on with collaborators at UNC Chapel Hill and ETH Zurich are real-time 3D scanning with mobile devices, a real-time pipeline for 3D reconstruction of cities from vehicle mounted-cameras, camera-based self-driving cars and the first fully autonomous vision-based drone. Most recently his academic research has focused on combining 3D reconstruction with semantic scene understanding, with applications in AR and robotics. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed publications and holds several patents. His lab at ETH Zurich also developed the PixHawk auto-pilot which can be found in over half a million drones and he has co-founded several computer vision start-ups.
