AI integration in the IT environment: get inspired!
While artificial intelligence (AI) itself will not replace you or your organisation, those people and organisations who are using AI in the best possible way, will. So as the dust of the 2022 generative AI eruption settles, all organisations are training their staff and rolling out proofs of concepts to integrate AI more and more into their IT environment. At the same time, AI-supported automation never really stopped. But jumping on the AI train without knowing your destination is risky. What is the mindset your employees need? Can we identify concrete possibilities for increasing productivity? And what is happening with some of the current projects in production? Let's find out!

Leertraject
First up at this session, VAIA will explain what employees need to work with AI systems. Dropsolid will then take us into the world of Retrieval-Augmented Generation, while Cegeka will focus in on AI assistants. Finally, we’ll get two real-life user stories about using AI in your organisation. Brussels Airport Company will show us how they are using AI to improve the traveller’s experience, along with the role of Large Language Models. And Proximus NXT will reveal the inner workings of their internal approach to AI.
This is the first session in a full day’s event on AI. The afternoon session is ‘Ethical AI culture: governance & acceptable use in business‘. You can choose to attend one or both sessions.
Please register individually for each session you will attend.

9:00 (in English) Introduction: Participants’ expectations around the table
Levi Nietvelt, Policy Lead and Business Development, Beltug
9:10 (in English) Why lifelong learning is essential for the success of AI
AI systems are different from classic IT systems. One core difference is the fact that, as learning systems, they don’t operate flawlessly from the outset, and in fact they might never attain perfection. For employees to qualitatively use an AI system, they need to grasp how the system was built, discern which information to rely on, and recognise when they are merely receiving advice. To foster this understanding, lifelong learning of every user is imperative. Even better: collaborative development with trained end-users and departments not exclusively centered on IT should be the objective.
Lisa Hilte, AI Expert, VAIA (Vlaamse AI Academie)
9:30 (in English) How Retrieval-Augmented Generation frees up time in your organisation
Are you eager to revolutionise your approach to user engagement? Let’s learn about the future of digital content interaction, delving into the world of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) within the CMS landscape. The presentation will also showcase the relationship between cutting-edge AI and robust open source content management systems. What are the real-world applications and possibilities, and how can you use digital interaction to free up time in the organisation, by letting AI take care of menial tasks automatically.
Frederik Wouters, Enterprise Architect, and Steven Pepermans, COO, Dropsolid
10:00 (in English) The AI coworker that never sleeps
A personal digital assistant right at your fingertips? It’s no longer a distant dream! During this presentation, we will learn about the incredible capabilities of today’s digital assistants, built on a generative AI accelerator. From streamlining tasks to enhancing productivity, AI assistants are here, and they’re ready to revolutionise the way we work.
Matthias Verlinde, Data Scientist, and Cédric Vandelaer, AI architect, Cegeka

11:10 (in English) User story: Improving the passenger experience with reliable AI at Brussels Airport
For most of us, taking a plane is both a special and a stressful event. Ensuring an optimal experience is thus a key goal. In this presentation, you will gain insight into the use of AI to increase the efficiency of the operations of Brussels Airport, thus improving the passenger experience. Brussels Airport is also using best practices from Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) to build and maintain AI solutions in its existing IT infrastructure. What are some of the lessons learned? What will the future bring? And how do they envisage applying the Large Language Models for communication towards passengers?
Thibault Verhoeven, Data Science Manager, Brussels Airport Company
11:40 (in English) User story: AI, from internal expertise to value proposition
Let’s hear from Proximus how they approach AI internally, within the organisation. Since a few years, Proximus has been building +100 AI use cases for their own purpose, supporting all departments of the group. From guiding its technicians in signaling their work optimally on the roadways, to correcting & translating the chat conversations between their customer service agents and their customers, we’ll explore how Proximus concretely empowers their employees and enhances their user experience, with the transformative power of AI/GenAI seamlessly woven into every facet of the group.
Sandro Manzo, AI Lead, Proximus NXT
