Kristin Van Damme

I have a background in user research in journalism, and that's how I became fascinated by disinformation and AI-manipulated or generated media. I'm a mixed-methods evangelist and always combine qualitative and quantitative research. I'm a senior researcher at imec-mict-Ghent University and teach innovation research in Communication Sciences. I'm also the coordinator of Mediapunt, the knowledge center for media research in Flanders.

In June 2013, Kristin started as a junior researcher at mict, involved in media innovation projects (Icon-MiX by iMinds, imec). In April 2014, she became a teaching assistant in the New Media and Society curriculum and later also in Journalism.

In 2020, she obtained a doctorate for her audience-oriented research on news, titled "Transforming journalism, transforming audiences. Audience-centered research on news practices in the Digital Age," supervised by Sarah Van Leuven and Lieven De Marez.
