Multi-view data analysis approaches are attracting more and more attention recently due to the increasing availability of multi-source data in real-world applications, e.g. continuous monitoring of the operation of industrial assets (wind turbines, compressors, …) in the field generates a vast amount of data originating from a multitude of very diverse sources (operating parameters, environmental conditions, …). However, it is not always feasible and neither wise to approach data analytics for such applications by merging all the available data into a single data set.

In order to conduct meaningful analytics on complex data one should be able to consider and analyse separately different data representations (or views) provided by the different sources and take full advantage of the extracted knowledge by applying an appropriate integration analysis. Multi-view data analysis algorithms aim to solve these challenges by respecting the latent structure of the different data views. Dr. Tsiporkova will demonstrate the potential of multi-view analysis on real-world data by illustrating how it can be used for the integration of heterogeneous temporal data originating from multiple sources and for the establishment of a direct link between the operating modes and the prototypical performance of an industrial asset.

Teacher / speaker

Elena Tsiporkova is presently leading the EluciDATA Lab by Sirris. Elena is in the unique position to have extensive R&D experience, both in an academic and an industrial environment. She holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from UGent and her academic career of almost 15 years includes diverse research assignments (e.g. assistant-professor, research scholar, postdoctoral fellow, …) at universities in Bulgaria, Belgium, Austria, Germany and the UK. Subsequently, she has worked for several years in an industrial context before starting at Sirris, which as an industrial research centre is the perfect marriage between academic and industrial research. Elena has played a key role as the main initiator and driving force behind the creation and establishment of The Data and AI Competence Lab, which she presently leads. Elena has been active for more than 30 years in the fields of data analytics and AI in very diverse application domains e.g. speech processing, bioinformatics, knowledge engineering and multimedia. She has authored more than 100 scientific publications.

AI for Time Series

Several research groups in the Flanders AI Research Program conduct world-class research on time series, both in the development of algorithms and tools, as in a wide area of application fields. In a recent poll in the Flanders AI community, ‘time series’ came up as the most wanted topic for future workshops or courses. With this seminar series, we bring together researchers that are interested in, or are conducting research related to, time series. We offer a varied program of national and international speakers.
