AI Café - Increasing AI Literacy
This AI cafe will feature insightful talks and discussions on the AI courses offered by KU Leuven to promote AI literacy among students and the broader community.
The speakers will share their experiences and insights on the importance of AI literacy and how KU Leuven's AI courses are designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge. You will not only get a view of the current initiatives of KU Leuven, but through the discussion will also be able to spark ideas for future directions.

Tinne De Laet
Tinne De Laet is hoogleraar aan de Faculteit Ingenieurswetenschappen van KU Leuven, lid van het Leuven Engineering and Science Education Center (LESEC) en Leuven.AI en hoofd van de Tutorial Services van Ingenieurswetenschappen aan dezelfde universiteit.
Haar onderzoeksinteresses omvatten AI voor educatieve toepassingen, leeranalyses, metacognitie, zelfregulatie en ondersteuning van eerstejaarsstudenten, met een speciale focus op engineering en STEM.
Maarten De Vos
Prof. dr. Maarten De Vos is hoogleraar aan de faculteiten Ingenieurswetenschappen en Geneeskunde van KU Leuven. Hij richt zich op het verbeteren van data science-benaderingen voor verschillende toepassingen in de gezondheidszorg. Zijn AI-oplossingen worden gebruikt op verschillende ziekenhuisafdelingen, variërend van neonatologie tot ouderenzorg.
Leen Sevens
Leen Sevens is educatief technoloog aan de KU Leuven. Ze heeft een achtergrond als onderzoeker in Computerlinguïstiek en ontwikkelde een vertaalsysteem voor het omzetten van tekst naar pictogrammen (en omgekeerd) voor mensen met een verstandelijke beperking. Als onderwijsinnovator aan KU Leuven verdiept ze zich onder meer in de opportuniteiten en risico's van GenAI voor het hoger onderwijs en organiseert ze praktische workshops voor docenten en ondersteuners.

Thomas Winters
Thomas Winters is a post-doctoral researcher working on creative artificial intelligence under supervision of prof. dr. Luc De Raedt at the DTAI research group of the KU Leuven computer science department and the Leuven.AI institute.
Annelies Raes
Annelies Raes is Tenure Track Professor at KU Leuven, Belgium within the Centre for Instructional Psychology and Technology. Annelies Raes holds a PhD in Educational Technology by Ghent University and worked before as a Senior Researcher at ITEC, IMEC research group at KU Leuven. Next to her affiliation to KU Leuven, Annelies Raes was Guest Professor and Chair Holder on Technology-Enhanced Learning Spaces at Université de Lille, France. Her main fields of interest are instructional design, computer-supported collaborative learning and synchronous hybrid education. In her current research program, she investigates the (new) role of the teacher in technology-enhanced learning environments.
