In dit Engelstalig webinar uit onze reeks "Peers & Prompts" verkent Maxime Van Haeverbeke (UGent) "vibe coding", en behandelt Gustavo Rovelo Ruiz (UHasselt) strategieën om met de impact van GenAI op de onderwijspraktijk om te gaan.

We can no longer deny the impact of Generative AI (GenAI) on our lives, and our classrooms are no exception. Accessing information and presenting it creatively has become a matter of knowing how to ask the right question to your favorite GenAI tool. This technology is now omnipresent: students don’t need to make any special effort to seek help from it, as it is integrated into everyday tools—from simple notepads to modern search engines.
In this talk, Gustavo will share empirical strategies adopted by teaching staff in higher education at UHasselt to address this new reality—approaches that invite us to rethink not only what we teach, but how we teach in the age of GenAI.

An introduction to vibe coding

Nowadays we've all become familiar with the convenience and risks of tools like ChatGPT. In this session we'll cover the supercharged version of such tools, where complete webtools, codebases or even a flight simulator can be made with generative AI. What's more, users don't even need to write a single line of code. However, like ChatGPT, due supervision and criticism are required to make vibe coding productive.

Maxime Van Haeverbeke
Maxime Van Haeverbeke is an interdisciplinary postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Data Analysis and Mathematical Modelling within Ghent University's Faculty of Bioscience Engineering. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Bioscience Engineering: Mathematical Modelling in July 2023 for his thesis focusing on advances in impedimetric modelling for life sciences and engineering applications. His expertise encompasses data-driven and mechanistic modelling approaches of biological systems.
Gustavo Rovelo Ruiz
Gustavo Rovelo Ruiz is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Hasselt University’s Digital Future Lab and Flanders Make. His research focuses on Human-Centered AI and adaptive, intelligible user interfaces, applied to personalized learning in higher education and manufacturing, with particular attention to student and worker well-being.
Lisa Hilte
Lisa Hilte is doctor in de taalkunde. Ze werkte jarenlang als taalkundig onderzoeker en lesgever aan de Universiteit Antwerpen. Vandaag werkt ze bij VAIA als AI-expert en liaison voor UAntwerpen. Daarnaast is ze freelance schrijver met een focus op wetenschapsjournalistiek, en freelance lesgever in AI en taaltechnologie. Ze publiceerde twee cursussen taaltechnologie voor leerlingen en leerkrachten uit de derde graad middelbaar onderwijs (uitgeverij Plantyn).
