6th Edition of the Workshop on Nonlinear System Identification Benchmarks
A scientific workshop that promotes the cross-fertilisation of research efforts between the mechanical engineering, control engineering and machine learning communities around recent developments in the data-driven modelling of nonlinear dynamic systems. A short course on nonlinear system identification follows the Workshop.

The 6th Edition of the Workshop on Nonlinear System Identification Benchmarks will be held as an in-person event in Leuven, Belgium, 25-27 April 2022 (https://www.nonlinearbenchmark.org/workshop). The Workshop is followed by a mini-course on nonlinear system identification, 28-29 April 2022 (https://www.nonlinearbenchmark.org/mini-course).
This year again, the workshop is building upon its basic ingredients:
- it stands as a forum facilitating the exchange of ideas and knowledge between the mechanical engineering, machine learning, and control engineering communities.
- a selection of renowned keynote speakers from the same three communities are invited to share with the audience their views on the future trends in nonlinear system identification. The list of this year’s speakers is:
- Juš Kocijan (Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia) on “Gaussian processes for nonlinear system identification”.
- Håkan Hjalmarsson (Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden) on “Identification of nonlinear stochastic differential-algebraic equation models”.
- Kim Batselier (Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands) on “Tensor-based kernel methods for nonlinear system identification”.
- Dhammika Widanage (University of Warwick, UK) on “Nonlinear system identification of battery dynamics”.
- interested attendees are challenged to apply their favourite system identification tool to a carefully established list of benchmark systems. This list has recently been upgraded, and today eleven different benchmarks are proposed, addressing a wide range of state-of-the-art challenges in the field with various levels of difficulties.
- a 2-day course on nonlinear system identification follows the Workshop (28-29 April).
The Workshop is open to both presenting and non-presenting participants. It is organised as an in-person event, as long as the covid-19 regulations allow for this. Visit https://www.nonlinearbenchmark.org to get more information!
