Ethics@KU Leuven
Ethics@KU Leuven has a simple yet ambitious goal: to unite everyone within KU Leuven (and the KU Leuven Association) involved in ethics and contribute to the debate on significant ethical issues, both within the university and in society.
This mission is more urgent than ever. In a society that increasingly resembles a naked competition for self-interest, with efficiency as the only standard, it is crucial to continue asking how—and whether—our activities truly contribute to what matters most: fostering a good human life.
The university, advancing at an ever-increasing pace, also needs occasional reflection on its own operations. Ethicists can help by contemplating what a good life entails and clarifying which norms and institutions best serve this goal. As Paul Ricœur said, the ultimate aim of ethics is “the good life with and for others, in just institutions.”
