Danny Vanpoucke
Machine learning and artificial intelligence in modern materials science
Danny Vanpoucke is an all-purpose computational materials researcher. By bringing together expertise in Physics and Chemistry [Ph.D.'s in Physics (2009,UTwente) and Chemistry (2012, UGent)] and combining it with a strong affinity for programming and high performance computing, he keeps a broad perspective on materials. This drives him to seek out new and different challenges in every project.
He strives for long-lasting contributions with experimental-theoretical collaborations playing a central role in his research vision. As an enthusiastic speaker he aims to create awareness about the power of computational research. In this, his focus goes to both the general public, via science communication events, as well as the materials research community.
He considers computational research the glue between theory and experiment, and believes strongly that computational materials science is becoming the way of doing future materials research.
