This workshop, organised by the OECD, in collaboration with the Committee of the Regions, in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2025, will bring together policymakers, experts, and local and regional representatives to explore how communities can help workers transition to new jobs while remaining rooted locally.
Using innovative OECD data on occupational proximity, the session will present a skills-first, place-based approach to mapping transferable skills and building career pathways within regions.
Participants will discuss how these insights can guide inclusive labour market strategies, reduce barriers to mobility, and strengthen regional resilience in the context of the green transition, digitalisation, and wider economic shifts.
