Introduction to Supercomputing at HLRS

HLRS provides leading high-performance computing resources to academic and industrial users across Germany and Europe. This introductory course helps users get productive on our systems, covering the essentials of working on the HLRS clusters from your first login to submitting and managing batch jobs. It is aimed at HLRS users who are new to working on the clusters; no prior cluster experience is assumed, only basic familiarity with a computer.

Learning outcomes
After completing this course, participants will be able to work productively on the HPC systems at HLRS. Specifically, they will know how to:
- know how to access the HLRS systems via SSH
- know how to work on the Linux command line
- know how to transfer data and manage storage and workspaces
- know how to set up software environments with modules and Python
- know how to submit and monitor jobs with the PBS batch system
