Ethically Implementing GenAI

Are you (co-)responsible for implementing or managing generative AI (GenAI) in your institution? Do you think it is important to do so in an ethically responsible way, but do you lack a solid foundation to get started? Is the ethical section in practical AI courses sometimes too limited for what you are looking for?

This workshop introduces you to some important principals of ethical AI implementation. We will cover bias, the ecological impact of GenAI, and the core of the European AI Act, among other topics. You will obtain a key understanding that you can then use in your own organization.

Next, guided by the lecturers, you will take part in a structured discussion about GenAI in higher education and its ethical implications. Step by step, you will develop a methodology to start or continue this discussion in your own institution. You go through a process to identify key stakeholders, explore ethical challenges, and develop actionable strategies. You will learn to recognize and avoid common pitfalls such as polarization and oversimplification, as well as to make balanced ethical considerations. At the end of the workshop, you will have a set of key ethical principles to apply at a policy level. You will also receive concrete recommendations on ethical and technological GenAI challenges, both at the level of individual users and at an organization level.
